How to Make Your Own Instant Coffee
The method is roughly the following:
Pour ground coffee into water. The ratio should be about 4 to 1 water to coffee. That would be 1 cup of coffee for every 4 cups of water.Stir to mix.Cover the jar and let sit overnight. Strain the liquid through your fine mesh strainer. There are special strainers just for making coffee this way or you can use a reusable coffee filter. They are made for coffee makers but work well for the purpose of straining out the grounds from your cold brewed coffee.Refrigerate or freeze in smaller portions – an ice cube tray works good for this. 1.To make a cup of instant coffee you will dilute the coffee concentrate by adding an equal amount of water in your cup. Microwave to heat for hot coffee or serve over ice for iced coffee. You can also boil water and add to the coffee concentrate in your cup rather than microwave. Adjust the strength of the coffee to your taste. Add milk, cream, sugar, or creamer as desired.
3.The Toddy Coffee maker uses the same principles as the cold brew method above except the container and filters are all in a kit. You add the ground coffee and water to a large container on top. The water seeps through a thick filter into a lower container. When the water has all gone to the bottom, the coffee concentrate is ready and can be refrigerated and used in the same manner as I’ve described above.
